ANNUAL THEMATIC RESEARCH PROJECT - 2007
Recreational Impact Assessment and Monitoring Project

This project seeks to assess the recreational impacts at campsites along the San Juan River corridor. In conjuction with river resource managers at the BLM Monticello Field Office, a customized rapid assessment protocol has been developed by faculty of the Geography, Planning & Recreational Management Department at NAU. The protocol will be implemented by volunteers during river trips in cooperation with NAU Outdoors and Grand Canyon Youth.  The overall goal of the project will be to develop a valid and reliable system, collect recreation impact information in 2007, and then establish an on-going system which can be implemented at a low cost to ensure continued data collection along the San Juan River.
